The Art Dept is owned by Lea and Brent Goates and was created to be both a place for artists to find community, as well as a place for the community to explore and celebrate art.
Lea earned her BFA from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and spent over 17 years in a corporate environment serving B2B clients in their workplaces. She then served as a visiting assistant visual arts professor at UMHB prior to opening The Art Dept. She and Brent also own the adjoining business, The Wreck Center, in downtown Temple.
